Well, I don't know how many hits I'll get on my blog today or this weekend cause it seems like alot of the blogs I read, everyone and their brother are going to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival (or is that Wool and Sheep). This is the first time I've ever heard of it but it seems pretty cool by the website. I'm actually only 4 hours away from that....but I'm not much of a distance driver....I'm a distance passenger....or as my sweetie man calls it, his "nag-avator"! Hey, I'm first to admit I'm a bit of a back seat driver...just a bit.
Anyway, been working on the kitchen still. You probably won't see pics of the finished product for at least a week or two. The weather in PA is perfect for painting. 60-70 degrees during the day and 40-50 at night. With the windows open those nasty fumes go right outside.
I did spent a good two hours tho untangling dye your own yarn from Knit Picks. I don't know what the heck I did...but I did it Good! It was so tangled! I thought I would open the package and it would unfold into this perfect hank that I would just straighten out a bit....but it didn't...or I didn't do it right. Anyway....after I untangled it and rolled it into a ball...I wrapped it around a chair top for a perfectly formed hank ready for dying in the kool aid tomorrow! (in between starting the other half of my Kitchen painting) So I'll take pics of that project and you can see the results. Hey, maybe it's not as exciting as the Maryland Festival....but what do ya want for a small town blogger in PA! Okay...I'm heading off to dreamland....catch ya on the flip-flop!

Get this!!!

Okay, remember that cute little sock that I showed you a picture of yesterday....the one that I spent 3 days doing 8 rows, or whatever,....that sock I was going to use for a swap....the sock that I was so proud of cause I got so far???? IT'S GONE!!!!! ZIP!!! ZILCH.....GONE!!!! And you know why it is gone? Because I thought I didn't have to give 100% to paying attention to every stitch I was doing....I said to myself, "gosh, I'm getting the hang of this...I can let my mind wonder a bit!" WRONG!!!! Next thing I knew I had TWO EMPTY NEEDLES IN MY HAND...NOT ONE...TWO!!! I can't tell you what came out of my mouth...okay....I said, "OH, CRAP!" I convinced myself that it just wasn't meant to be cause thanks to Sydney's comment on yesterday's blog, I think I may have been using the wrong size needles for the weight of my yarn. But never fear....I happened to have some nice gray wool yarn that I think will work on these # 3 needles...and I've already started on the new pair! So, hopefully I'll show you my progress in an upcoming blog.
On a happier note.....I just had to show you a picture of the cutest little cookie....that's what I said COOKIE!

Don't you just want to eat them up!!!! And I did....they taste the same as the real size without the calories. Check them out if you are a weight watcher like me (yep, I watch my weight go UP....and I watch my weight go DOWN....unfortunately the UP is ahead of the DOWN....but I'm trying!)
Okay, enough for tonight....I'll talk to yunz all tomorrow....tootle-lu!

Shawls and Socks

With a title like that you know there's gonna be pics.
First...now that the shawl I made is safely in my swap buddy's arms, (with many thanks from her) I can show you the pic.

It was a lion brand pattern from their site...I believe it was the Easy Triangle Shawl. Crocheted with 2 strands of crochet thread held together, it was really easy. I did it in an off white. I was really pleased with the outcome.
Second, I'm going to show you a pic of my first sock and the book it came from.

I think I may have use the wrong type of yarn tho the gauge was right. So I'm just going to keep on keeping on with it. I made it with Knit Picks Dancing Yarn. I'm telling you that Knit Picks is the BEST! They are super cheap and quick in deliverying. I'm very pleased with them anyway.
Tell me what you think about the sock and be honest. I'm so afraid it's going to be too small tho there is this thin elastic thread that runs through it to make it very elastic.
I'd also like to know the difference in sock yarns. I understand they should be wool or have some wool in them but what is DK mean? And, what needles are best with what yarns....I've only seen the #3 DPNS....what sizes to these come in? Okay, that's it on socks. I do have to say that knitting these socks is really Addicting!!!!! And fun!
Last but not least, I want to give a big SHOUT OUT to my wonderful niece who reads my blog daily (what a trooper!) because she emailed me thinking that I went to that big CRAFT STORE in the sky cause I didn't blog one day. I told her I was just pooped from painting. I'm starting to pace myself on this painting project....a little each day....so don't worry....even if I talk about nothing, I'll blog!!! Oh, and before I forget...thanks to all yunz guys who told be how to kill the spam.
Okay, till tomorrow.....happy yarning!

Questions, questions, questions...

I just have to say this....I salute all of you knitters who make these fabulous looking socks....gorgeous designed socks.....beautiful colorful perfectly looking knitted socks!!!!!! I've done many kinds of crafts in the last 45 years of my life, but there are few that were so difficult that I couldn't manage them. Knitting socks is ONE of them!!! I've ripped out the pair I've started about 5 times already but I'm not giving up...this won't beat me!!! Just tell me if I'm going crazy, or did all of you sock knitters have a difficult time working with 4 needles at one time? I'm trying to concentrate on the needles I'm working on, but I seem to every once in awhile, and as careful as I am, to pick up stitches!!! I'm making the most basic sock from a learn to knit socks book.....I mean it's like the "Dick and Jane" of knitting....ya know...Puff and Spot!!!! This is nuts! If any of you know of a trick or secret tips to doing this....or maybe want to tell me your first time stories, I will most definately welcome the help. I'm not giving up at all.....it seems like the more I do it the more rows I'm getting through before I get frustrated and frog!
Also, another question....any of you that use blogger, do you know if there is something to prevent spam...I'm actually starting to get comments that direct me to a landscape site or some non-existent craft site......what's that about????? The only spam I wanna see on my blog comes from a can!!!!
And please be patient with me if I haven't been leaving comments on your blogs....I'm having a heck of time sometimes leaving comments.....must be just slow out there or something. But I'm reading you all and I'll let you know when the computer isn't being a poo-poo head!!!
Well, that's it for now. Just some questions I wanted to throw out there. Hope you can help cause I really really want to knit socks (among all the other zillions of things I want to do!)
Oh, and don't forget your daily trip to Mexico at The Funny Peppers! Till tomorrow...

While I slave over a pan of paint...Sweetie Man will be giving you a tour of Oaxaca Mexico where he is now. Even if you don't want to use Mozilla or Netscape as suggested (in IE the colors of his blog are a bit much), you can still click on his pictures for a tour. ENJOY ! (I miss you, Sweetie-Man)

This is me!!!

Can you smell them?

I love lilacs. Can you smell them? These are some of the flowers on a bush in my back yard. When I was a little girl we had two lilac bushes in this yard. When I moved back in this house that I grew up in, the lilac bushes were gone, but I managed to find a few sprigs sticking up near an area where one of the bushes were further down in the yard. Just for the heck of it, I dug up this sprig, which was not more than a stick, and replanted it were one of the bushes had been years ago. It bloomed and grew into this beautiful bush...like it was meant to be there.....I guess like I was meant to be here. I love this old house....I fought to get back in it after my divorce and I did. It was gutted and remodeled when my ex and I moved in here 15 years ago. Now it's getting a mini makeover that my sweetie man and I are doing....making it bright and beautiful the way it was when I was a little girl. We have more painting to do and it needs recarpeted....but we'll do it. I've started repainting the kitchen today....and I'm so excited about it. It's something I'm doing as a surprise for my sweetie whenever he returns. The kitchen is really his spot since he loves to cook....so it's all going to be done in a pepper motif. I took some before pics and I'll take "after" pics and definately put them on my blog. So keep an eye out.....cause it's gonna be something to see...I can't wait to finish it up.
Well, that's it for tonight.....trying to figure out knitting socks and crocheting a new purse all inbetween the painting. The busier I keep, the faster the time will go while my sweetie man is away. Of course, my son did tell me not to be sad cause he'll be around alot...which I thought was nice. He neglected to tell me that all his friends would be around too though....that's okay.....I love the noise! Till tomorrow.....later gator! Oh, before I forget...thanks for all your "zit" stories and advice.....mine is doing much better...the spiders haven't hatched yet but they don't hurt as much either!!!

urban legends...

Did anyone ever tell you the story about a kid they knew who knew a kid who had a cousin who had a spider bite that kept getting bigger and bigger and unbeknownst to them, it was actually a nest of spider eggs that one day broke open and let loose a flurry of baby spiders on his face???
Well, let me tell you.....I think that nest is on the left side of my face near my ear...and it hurts!!! At least it does when I touch it (any one of you say, "well then don't touch it"....I swear I'll never read your blog again!)
No in reality, I've got this zit that looks like a second ear.....it's actually just one of those "headless zits" and I'm almost 50!!!! Go figure!!!! Will they ever ever end!!!!! Maybe if I would grow up mentally, I wouldn't get them. It is a sore one though. I'm hoping anyway that's all it is.....I was just to the doc this week and had blood tests and all and he felt around my glands so I'm sure he would have felt something suspicious then...so don't all of you start to worry!!!! I'm nothing but a big 'ol zit head. And, if you are still a teenager, and your mom says, "oh, you'll outgrow it"......sorry, it just plain don't work that way. They may diminish....but they will always be there. But I do have a theory about zits....(don't I always)......if you have them, that means your face produces alot of nice oils which keep your skin nice and young looking....so that when you are 80 years old...you'll only look 60 cause you have such great oily skin.
Okay...that's all I have to say today! I didn't blog yesterday cause I really was so very very busy helping my sweetie get ready for his trip then I got to bed really really late since my son and I took him to the airport. So, before sweetie man returns, I plan on painting the entire kitchen (which I will show before and after pics) as well as losing a few pounds.....so please don't show cakes and cookies on your blogs till I accomplish my weight goal ( you know who you are!)
Just kidding...hope I made you smile today......going to try and attempt my first knited pair of socks......so, till tomorrow.....tootles.

Getting better...

Well, the sinus thing is getting better. Still there today a little but as the weather evens out so do my sinus. I love my homemade microwave pad that I use for the sinus problem. I have quite a few of them. I've made big ones with placemats, quick ones with long heavy sport socks, and just plain ol' flannel. They work up so quick with feed corn. I guess that the feed corn holds the heat better than rice...at least that is what I've been told. We have a feed and garden center directly across the street from where I work, so that is cool for me. The guy there told me to put the feed corn in the freezer tho for awhile before I use it to kill all the creepy crawlers that may be hiding in there. If any of you have never heard of these corn pillows, let me know and I'll give you directions to make them or you can just google homemade microwave packs. I have literally just taken a sock and filled it about half way with the corn and tied a knot in the end. I then popped it in the microwave for about two minutes, put it on my head, the back of my neck or in the case of cramps, on my stomach....and soon I was feeling better. I just love those things.....make super gifts too. I would make various sizes and put them in a basket or whatever. Everyone loved them.
Boy, I really didn't have much to say today but I managed to find something....not bad. I'm actually on the last rows of my Shawl Swap shawl which is why I don't have too much to show you tonight. My recepient probably thinks she's not getting anything....I think it will be worth the wait actually.....so I'm a bit of a procrastinator!
Well, that's it for tonight! I get to sleep in a bit tomorrow since I'm taking a personal day at work to help my sweetie man pack for a little trip he is taking. So, gang, till tomorrow.....tootles!

NOW, take your total and find out which Movie Star you are:

(10-17 points) You are MADONNA: You are wild and crazy and you know it. You know how to have>> fun, but you may take it to extremes. You know what you are doing though, and are much in control of your own life. People don't always see things your way, but that doesn't mean that you should do away with your beliefs. Try to remember that your wild spirit can lead to hurting yourself and others.

(18-26 points) You are DORIS DAY: You are fun, friendly, and popular! You are a real crowd pleaser. You have probably been out on the town your share of times, yet you come home with the values that your mother taught you. Marriage and children are very important to you, but only after you have fun. Don't let the people you please influence you to stray.

(27-34 points) You are DEBBIE REYNOLDS: You are cute, and everyone loves you. You are a best friend that no one takes the chance of losing. You never hurt feelings and seldom have your own feelings hurt. Life is a breeze. You are witty, and calm most of the time. Just keep clear of back stabbers, and you are worry-free.

(35-42 points) You are GRACE KELLY: You are a lover. Romance, flowers, and wine are all you need to enjoy yourself. You are serious about all commitments and are a family person. You call your Mom every Sunday, and never forget a Birthday. Don't let your passion for romance get confused with the real thing.

(43-50 points) You are KATHERINE HEPBURN: You are smart, a real thinker. Every situation is approached with a plan. You are very healthy in mind and body. You don't take crap from anyone. You have only a couple of individuals that you consider "real friends". You teach strong family values. Keep your feet planted in them, but don't overlook a bad situation when it does happen.

(51-60 points) You are ELIZABETH TAYLOR: Everyone is in awe of you. You know what you want and how to get it. You have more friends than you know what to do with. Your word is your bond. Everyone knows when you say something it is money in the bank. You attract the opposite sex. Your intelligence overwhelms most. Your memory is the next thing to photographic. Everyone admires you because you are so considerate and lovable. You know how to enjoy life and treat people right.

I'm pooped...

Not much to write about tonight. It's late and I'm tired. My niece in Houston TX is having her craft show next week and I've been trying to finish up some stuff to get in the mail to her tomorrow. I'll be sending some of my purses which I've posted before along with some wooden angel pins and some folk art pillows. I'll take some pics before I send them out so you can see what I've made. Hopefully very soon I'll be putting the button to our website on my sidebar so you can take a look and if you are interested, buy some handmade items. Don't worry, I'll let you know when I put it there.
Well, that's about it for today....(yawn) Catch yunz all tomorrow when I'm hopefully a little more well rested.

An evening to remember...

It was beautiful...romantic....it was magic! We had a fabulous time on our little three hour cruise on the Gateway Clipper's Magestic.
The food was excellent, the music was romantic...and the company was.....wonderful! I'm going to share with you a few pics of our night. First was the inside of the boat.

It was actually three levels with the third being outside I believe. We didn't get the outside pic of the boat because we were too close to it actually. It was funny because the Fall Out Boy concert was going on in the same area of town and we sorta got disoriented as to where the boat docks because of the long long line of kids going to the concert (my son and his gal pal being two of them!) Anyway we did make it on time.
The food was served in the middle of the dance floor and once that cleared the entertainment began. The Frank Sinatra impersonator not only sang like him but looked like him also.
We danced as he sang some of our favorite tunes.
The boat cruised so gently I kept forgetting that we were even on a boat.
We did manage to take some pictures before the entertainment begain and it got too dark. The first pic is the beautiful fountain at the point of the three rivers.
It was a rainy evening off and on but this pic looks like there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
Next, (for Courtney) we took a pic of the Home of the SuperBowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers...the one...the only....HEINZ FIELD!
Next is the Chevrolet Amphitheatre where my son was attending the Fall Out Boy Concert.
He said that they had an great time and with all the body surfing going on in the crowd, he and his gal pal managed to maneuver their way to five rows within the stage which is where they were when the main act came on. He took a video on his camera...I was stunned he got so close.
Anyway, as the sky darkened and lights were dimmed on the boat, we took a stroll to the outside of the and watched the reflection of all of Pittsburgh in the still waters. It was beautiful.
Our evening came to end and we left with wonderful memories of our Majestic cruise.....hope you enjoyed the trip with us and you got a little taste of where we live.....
For another take on the evening, check out The Funny Peppers (sweetie man's blog)....I think you will find he enjoyed it also. Till tomorrow.....

Gettin' ready...

Can't post too much today cause I'm going on a river cruise and I have to look my best. Sweetie man is taking me on a romantic date on the Gateway Clipper Fleet. If any of you would like to know a little bit about it, just click on the words and it will take you there.

Tonight we are going to enjoy a lovely dinner/dance cruise with the sounds of Frank Sinatra.

I love that whole era of music. I'm so excited about it. It's about a three hour cruise on the river with the scenic backdrop of the city of Pittsburgh which is really magnificent. The skyline is absolutely breathtaking at the point which is where the three rivers converge...the Ohio, the Allegheny and the Monongahela. There is a big beautiful fountain at that point also. Anyway, I'll be getting all dolled-up (with my shawl from Shaylen, of course) as will my man.

So, that's about all I have to say today. Now of course you know there will be pictures tomorrow so don't forget to stop back. It's pouring rain right now and supposed to clear, but everything is inside the boat so I'm not concerned. Tonight my son is going to the Fall Out Boy concert with the gal pal less than a mile where our boat will be setting sail and about the same time. I think that is sorta funny. Anyway, check with me tomorrow and hopefully I'll have some cool pics of the cruise that may just make you want to come on over to Pittsburgh some day! Later.....

Cute purses for little ones..

I've been dying to make these purses ever since I saw them on the Lion Brand site. Aren't they the cutest? I guess you are starting to realize that I tend to favor crocheting purses. Actually I enjoy sewing them and have even done small beaded ones. Ever since I can remember I've had a thing for purses. For alot of women it's shoes or jewelry...for me it's purses.
Anyway, these are made with the Lion Brand Micro-spun. I love that stuff. It's soft and silky at the same time and very very easy to work with. The first is the Tulip Purse that I did in yellow rather than the coral/pink suggested. The second is the Blossom Purse.

Another thing I found out about these purses, is that the Crochet Dude designed them for Lion. He claims they can be made in an hour....well, it took me a little longer. The tulip one possibly an hour but the flower one is a little longer. They are very easy though. They are a little smaller than I had anticipated but so so cute.
Well, that's it....just wanted to show you these. I was working outside and am a little pooped to say the least. The weather was so perfect today but they say we have some rain coming. Hey, I can still sit on my porch when it's raining, so I don't mind it.
So till tomorrow and my favorite day of the week.........nite all!

Need some feedback....

Okay, guys....we're all friends right? I need a little input from all you knitters and crocheters out there in Blogville. My talented niece is a wonderful crafter who loves to make jewelry. She currently lives and works in Houston TX with her new husband. She's done a few shows at her place of work and is starting a website where she and I can sell our goods. She does an excellent job and I think that her jewelry is very very reasonably priced (and I don't spend alot on things....I'm a Jo Ann coupon person, if you know what I mean).
Well, to get to the point here, I told her about stitch and row markers. I personally love the jeweled kind and told her what they are. She designed a few and came up with these.

I think they are awesome! I love them. I'm using them all the time on my crochet and will be using them when I knit. She wants to sell them on the site once it is up and running in the next couple of weeks (I'll have a link to it) but she asked me to ask you for some feedback. What do you think of these? Do you use them? Would you buy them if you saw them on the internet? Do you have any suggestions on how to improve them? What would you pay for a set of three?
Let me know as any input is good input!
I'm gonna close up for the night, but as a teaser, I'm going to show you how cute these look on your projects while you're working on them. We wear jewelry....why not our crochet and knitting? (hey, don't forget the great gifts they would make for friends, family, and your secret pals!!!!) Also, this pic lets me throw in a little Project Spectrum color (yellow) before the month's out....enjoy!

Another purse...

Not too much to say today. I was working on my Project Spectrum postcard swap and finishing that up. Sometimes I think too much on what I'm going to do rather than just doing it. I thought and thought about how I wanted to design the card, but instead I just pulled out all my stamps and stickers and what nots and just did it. It turned out nothing like I designed in my mind but I liked it! Can't show you a pic just yet till I'm sure my swap buddy has it in her hands...but I will show you soon so don't worry!
What I will show you tonight is a picture of another purse I knitted. My son's gal pal liked the other purse I knitted (see a few posts back) but she wanted it smaller. Actually it could only be a half sheet of paper in size...(crazy school regulations!) Anyway, this is what I came up with.

It turned out pretty cute and was very quick to knit (and you all know I'm a beginner knitter!) I used 1 skein of Caron Simply Soft Quick in Autumn Red with #15 Knitting Needles. I think I cast on about 20-25 then just knitted one side, purled the other (it's all I know how to do at this point). The yarn was very very soft also. I lined it and got the cute tortise (sp) shell handles at JoAnn's. Added a nice button and used an elastic hair tie for the loop. Not bad eh?
Well, that's about it for tonight....I'm in the mood to crochet so I'm going to head to bed, turn on Nancy Grace and work on my Shawl swap.....that is turning out really cute (can't tell you about that either yet....shhhhh!) Should be done very soon though!
Okay, gang, till tomorrow....hasta luego!

HAPPY DYNGUS DAY!!!

That's what I said....Happy Dyngus Day! If I hadn't already told you, I am of the Polish ancestry....100% pure and clear....as is my son. Now I know what you are all saying, "Blonde and Polish.....How many light bulbs does it take, blah, blah, blah!" But that's okay...I'm very proud of my Polish heritage and am used to the jokes! All of my grandparents were born in Poland and my parents, though born in the U.S., could speak fluent Polish. Unfortunately, I know very little and had little interest in learning when I was young....now I would love to learn it but I have no one to speak it to.
Anyway, back to Dyngus Day....it's a Polish Holiday (very popular in Poland) whereby after the long Lenten Holiday, there is a day of fun! (and a little romance also) It is always celebrated the Monday after Easter. On this day, the guys get to wet the ladies down by sprinkling or drenching them with water chasing them with buckets or squirt guns or whatever. The bolder men used cologne. The ladies get to hit the men with switches. (mmmm...I like this) On Tuesday, the ladies get their revenge and could throw dishes back at the boys. (ah, young love!) It has become increasingly popular though for the ladies to throw water back at the boys on Monday. Basically we're looking at a big water fight after Easter. If I remember correctly, my Mom used to say that, of course, you did this to the one you want to marry. (I also remember my Mom teasing my Dad and throwing water on him).
Okay, just a little bit of Polish history for yunz, guys! Being as I'm still recovering from a fun weekend, I'm going to end now with a few pics of Easter morning with my family before they left to go home to Michigan. We're a silly bunch so enjoy.......
MY SON AND HIS GAL PAL and my FUTURE GRANDSON (ED'S GRANDSON)

ED'S DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW

AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST.....MY SWEETIE MAN AND ME!!!!

TILL TOMORROW.....

Our new carpet...

Okay, before I tell you about my day, I'm going to give you a second to do me a small favor. If you haven't already noticed, I added a Frappr map to my sidebar. If you could just take a moment and let me know where you are from, that would be great. I promise I'll wait till you are done to continue (you don't have to post your pic, unless you want to) but it would be great to know where everyone came from. If you have already done so, you can take this moment to go get a cup of coffee or tea or take a well deserved break from the computer. Okay....go ahead...............(elevator music playing).........mmmmmm....mmmmmmmmm.......(more elevator music playing).....la, la, la, de-dum, de-dum.....(whistle-whistle)........(yawn)....zzzzzzzzz.......OH, OH....you're back! Okay, thanks! Now to the good stuff.
Just wanted to show you some pics of a favorite spot of mine. My front porch. Today, we had some carpet put down by my sweetie man's son-in-law and my sweetie man in the supervisory postion!
The job was done in an excellent manner!!!!! And his son-in-law never laid carpet before! We just kept him stocked in Iron City Beer and he was good to go. This next pic is me on the newly carpeted front porch. (with yarn in hand) If you are ever looking for me in the Spring and Summer, this is where you will find me.It is so relaxing. We'll be planting flowers around the porch soon and it will be so pretty. I am so happy about this cause it looked awful before with a peeling wooden floor.
Next pic is Ed's grandson (my future grandson) in one of his crazy new front teeth smiles.
I think he pretty much got pooped out for the weekend thanks to my son and his gal pal!
Last is Ed's daughter who wanted to learn to crochet. My first student...
By the end of the weekend she got down chain, single crochet, and double crochet. Unfortunately, she may have to learn the rest on her own as they will be going home on Sunday.
So that's it for the almost weekend. With all the activity it will be mighty quiet here on Easter afternoon so I'll probably pick up some yarn and crochet alot during the day. And if the weather is nice........you'll find my sweetie and me sittin' on the front porch....just swingin'! So till tomorrow............
