Questions, questions, questions...

I just have to say this....I salute all of you knitters who make these fabulous looking socks....gorgeous designed socks.....beautiful colorful perfectly looking knitted socks!!!!!! I've done many kinds of crafts in the last 45 years of my life, but there are few that were so difficult that I couldn't manage them. Knitting socks is ONE of them!!! I've ripped out the pair I've started about 5 times already but I'm not giving up...this won't beat me!!! Just tell me if I'm going crazy, or did all of you sock knitters have a difficult time working with 4 needles at one time? I'm trying to concentrate on the needles I'm working on, but I seem to every once in awhile, and as careful as I am, to pick up stitches!!! I'm making the most basic sock from a learn to knit socks book.....I mean it's like the "Dick and Jane" of knitting....ya know...Puff and Spot!!!! This is nuts! If any of you know of a trick or secret tips to doing this....or maybe want to tell me your first time stories, I will most definately welcome the help. I'm not giving up at all.....it seems like the more I do it the more rows I'm getting through before I get frustrated and frog!
Also, another question....any of you that use blogger, do you know if there is something to prevent spam...I'm actually starting to get comments that direct me to a landscape site or some non-existent craft site......what's that about????? The only spam I wanna see on my blog comes from a can!!!!
And please be patient with me if I haven't been leaving comments on your blogs....I'm having a heck of time sometimes leaving comments.....must be just slow out there or something. But I'm reading you all and I'll let you know when the computer isn't being a poo-poo head!!!
Well, that's it for now. Just some questions I wanted to throw out there. Hope you can help cause I really really want to knit socks (among all the other zillions of things I want to do!)
Oh, and don't forget your daily trip to Mexico at The Funny Peppers! Till tomorrow...

I've been having trouble leaving comments on some blogs too. Not sure what the problem is.

With the sock knitting, double points can seem like knitting a porcupine at times. It does get better with practice. I like to have the left needle above the needles on either side. Then I'll come into the stitches from below with the right needle. (Hope that makes sense.) I like double points, but some people prefer using circular needles (one or two). You might try that.

Long time ago I tried knitting a baby sock with 4 needles, I finished it but with some noticeable holes. I know that if I tried some more and practice knitting socks, that I'd eventually get it...But that would come later, right now I'm into crochet =)

Sorry you are having trouble knitting. My knitting consists of making the kids scarves when they were little and they dont like them anymore. I have been thinking of taking it back up but now I am having second thoughts.

As to the google thing that is sooooo awesome. If you would like some of the patterns I have I could make you copies and send them to you. I have like 20 or so quilt like patterns that are really cool. Well let me know....HOws your kitchen coming????

I love love love to knit socks. I started learning on DPNS. I prefered bamboo or wood because they are not so slippery. It took a few times, but I got the hang of it. I just recently learned magic loop (One long Circ) and I love it. I don't ever want to use dpns unless I have to. We actually do not live so far apart, so if you wanted to meet some time, maybe I could give you some help. As for spam comments, just go into your settings and make your comments have to be word verified.

I made it to your blog!! :) I can't wait to see the socks. All that frogging will make them super soft. :)
When I first started sock knitting, I wasn't that great at the whole thing. What's leading to your frogging? The picking up stitches. I realized that I did a few yarn overs that I didn't need and that was part of my problem.
Sock knitting works better for me if I keep the working needles in front of me and the others behind those. Not sure if that helps. There's also a great website with pictures...Sock Knitting 101 or something like that. E-mail me if you can't find it with a google search.

I was going to tell you about the 'word verification' thing, too. Settings at Blogger home, Comments, click word verification.
Lucy, I'm still on my first sock, too. I knit it with the outside inside. I didn't know that you had to use the front two needles. I know now. Luckily it was an easy fix. Just waiting for you to get to the heel so we can help each other.
